Untamable Bang on a Can and Cantaloupe Music recording artists Ashley Bathgate, cellist and Lisa Moore, pianist have teamed up to present TwoSense - a concert series and commissioning project featuring new, experimental music paired with mainstream repertoire for cello and piano. Emerging and established composers are being commissioned to write and develop new works for TwoSense and selected guest artists. Our mission is to seek and ensure the inclusion of these compostitions in the library of great chamber music.

We've lined up a series of commissions and premieres in exciting venues and are ready to rock your world! We are putting everything we have into this project and now we NEED YOUR HELP!
Following our successful New Haven launch at Firehouse12 on October 2nd, 2010 we are now moving full steam ahead towards our New York City debut on Monday January 4th, 2011 at (le) Poisson Rouge (www.lepoissonrouge.com).

ASHLEY BATHGATE, cello
American cellist Ashley Bathgate has performed worldwide as both a classical and contemporary musician and has been hailed by critics as a "brilliant, rising star." She has appeared in venues such as Carnegie's Zankel Hall, Merkin Hall, (le) Poisson Rouge,The Stone, BargeMusic, Boston's Symphony Hall, Seoul Arts Center, Forbidden City Concert Hall and National Center for the Performing Arts (Beijing), and the Muziekgebouw in Amsterdam. Ashley has been a guest artist at several festivals including New York City's Look and Listen, River to River, Big Ears Festival in Knoxville, TN, the Saratoga Chamber Music Festival, Bard Summerscape, Athelas New Music, the Shanghai International Arts Festival and the Beijing Music Festival. As a soloist, Ashley has performed with the American Symphony Orchestra, Yale Philharmonia, Woodstock Chamber Orchestra, Windham Chamber Players, and the Greater Newburgh Symphony Orchestra. In 2008 she made her New York debut in Carnegie’s Weill Hall with pianist Todd Crow and has been broadcast as a featured artist on WMHT FM, WQXR FM’s ‘Young Artist Showcase’, NPR's 'Performance Today' and WYNC's New Sounds Live. Ashley recently recorded a collaborative disc featuring music by Martin Bresnick which was released this spring on Albany Records. As a member of the award-winning "Bang on a Can All-Stars" Ashley champions new music across the globe and in many musical genres. She has collaborated with composers and musicians such as John Adams, Martin Bresnick, Julia Wolfe, Michael Gordon, David Lang, Louis Andriessen, Annie Gosfield, Ingram Marshall, Aaron J. Kernis, Terry Riley, Don Byron, David Longstreth, Nik Bärtsch, Mira Calix, Trio Mediaeval, Glenn Kotche, and Lee Ranaldo. Ashley's awards include a grant from the New York Philharmonic Players Fund, as well as top prizes at the 1999 and 2001 Lois Lyman Concerto Competition, the 2006 Hugo Kauder Memorial Strings Competition and the 2008 Yale University School of Music Woolsey Hall Concerto Competition. Her newly formed Lorien Trio received the bronze medal at the 2009 Fischoff National Chamber Music Competition. A native of Saratoga Springs, NY, Ashley began cello studies at the age of 12. She received a Bachelor's degree from Bard College where she studied cello with Luis Garcia-Rènart. Having received her Master’s degree in 2007 from the Yale University School of Music, she was selected for the 'Artist Diploma' program by her teacher, Aldo Parisot, and in that same year received the Aldo Parisot Prize for the cellist showing 'most promise for a concert career'. While at the Yale University School of Music she was a member of the acclaimed "Yale Cellos". She also studied composition with Ezra Laderman and chamber music with Claude Frank, Boris Berman, Peter Frankl, Jesse Levine, Ani Kavafian and the Tokyo String Quartet.
LISA MOORE, piano
Australian-American pianist Lisa Moore lives in New York City where she collaborates with a large and diverse range of musicians and artists. She was recently crowned "New York's queen of avant-garde piano" and “visionary” by The New Yorker magazine. Moore has performed with the London Sinfonietta, New York City Ballet, Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center, Bang on a Can All-Stars, BargeMusic, American Composers Orchestra, So Percussion, Don Byron Adventurers Orchestra, Signal, Da Capo Chamber Players, Steve Reich Ensemble, So Percussion, Signal and the Paul Dresher Double Duo. She has released 5 solo discs (on Cantaloupe Music and Tall Poppies) and over 30 collaborative discs (on Sony, Nonesuch, DG, CRI, BMG, Point, New World, ABC Classics and New Albion). Her latest solo recording "Seven" (music by Don Byron) was released in 2009 on Cantaloupe. Moore has performed at La Scala, the Musikverein, the Sydney Opera House, Carnegie Hall and the Royal Albert Hall and has made guest appearances at festivals such as Holland, Lincoln Center, Schleswig-Holstein, BBC Proms, Israel, Warsaw, Uzbekistan, Musica Ficta Lithuania, Prague Spring, Istanbul, Athens, Taormina, Southbank's Meltdown, Dublin's Crash, Graz, Huddersfield, Scotia, Paris d'Automne, Shanghai, Beijing, Hong Kong, Turin, Palermo, Barcelona, Heidelberg, Berlin, Perugia, Tanglewood, Houston Da Camera, Jacob's Pillow, Aspen, Norfolk, Sandpoint, Saratoga, Victoriaville, Ojai, Other Minds, NY's Sonic Boom, BAM Next Wave, MassMoca, Bang on a Can, Keys to the Future, MusicX, Mizzou, Healing The Divide, Adelaide, Perth, Queensland, Canberra, Sydney, Sydney's Olympic Arts, Sydney Spring and Mostly Mozart, Brisbane Biennale, and the Darwin Festival. As a concerto soloist she has played with the Australian Chamber Orchestra, Albany, Sydney, Tasmania, Thai and Canberra Symphony Orchestras, Philharmonia Virtuosi and the Queensland Philharmonic, under the batons of Brad Lubman, Reinbert de Leeuw, Pierre Boulez, Jorge Mester and Edo de Waart. Lisa Moore won the silver medal in the 1981 Carnegie Hall International American Music Competition. From 1992-2008 she was the founding pianist for the Bang On A Can All-Stars -- the New York based electro-acoustic sextet and winner of the Musical America 2005 "Ensemble of the Year" Award. She has collaborated with composers ranging from Iannis Xenakis, Milton Babbitt and Elliot Carter to Ornette Coleman, Meredith Monk and Phillip Glass. As an artistic curator Moore produced Australia's Canberra International Music Festival 2008 “Sounds Alive” series, importing musicians from around the world for 10 days of music making at the Street Theatre.
